The Lambda Nu Omega Story
Lambda Nu Omega was formed through the interest of a few sorors in the Lake County area, spearheaded
by Soror Isabelle Buckner, in the form of an Alpha Kappa Alpha round-up. The round-up was held at her
home on Sunday, February 8, 1976. Efforts were put into action which eventually led to the chartering of
Lambda Nu Omega chapter of Lake County, Illinois. This chartering has the distinction of being the first
Black Sorority in Lake County.
Lambda Nu Omega was chartered May 27, 1977 at the Waukegan Public Library in Waukegan, Illinois. The
Chartering procedures were performed by the Central Regional Director, Soror Gloria Bond of South Bend,
Indiana. Present for the chartering were Soror Odie Roberts (Past Central Regional Director) and Soror
